Let’s Make Kindness a Priority is a call to action from P.S. 316 Elijah G. Stroud Elementary’s fifth graders. Inside, readers will find the impassioned words of these elementary students as they present researched writing about the issues they care about most–everything from screen time and school lunch to public safety and environmental preservation. Students wrote letters to their teachers, their local, state, and federal government, and the United Nations to inspire change. They advocate for better healthcare and education, reducing pollution, stopping bullying, and more protections for endangered animals. These fifth graders are out to make the world a better, kinder place, and they will ignite readers to do the same.

As part of a collaboration between 826NYC and the Brooklyn Museum, in these pages you'll also find creative correspondence between the 5th grade authors and their 2nd grade counterparts at P.S. 1. Their letters, class poems, and artwork speak to issues close to their hearts, while sharing a glimpse into their lives.

Proceeds from the sale of this book benefit 826NYC, a nonprofit organization encouraging the exploration of endless possibilities through the power of writing.
